Hungary signs contract for participation in 2010 Shanghai World Expo

SHANGHAI -- Visiting Hungarian Prime Minister Gyurcsany Ferenc on Wednesday signed contract with Shanghai for official participation in the World Expo to be held in the municipality in 2010.

Hungary is the second country that has signed such contract with the world expo organizer, following Ukraine.

Gyurcsany said Hungary would be an active participant not only in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo but also in the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, noting that the convening of the two great international events would make the whole world have a new look on China.

Gyurcsany said the Hungarian people are good at and fond of sports so their performance at the Olympics would not be bad and his country could contribute its advanced sewage treatment technologies for specific exhibition projects at the World Expo in Shanghai.

On Wednesday, the Hungarian prime minister unveiled a bust of famous Hungarian poet and revolutionary Sandor Petofi and also headed more than 100 Hungarian business representatives to meet Chinese entrepreneurs. Shanghai Construction Group signed an agreement with Hungarian partner to establish its business base for eastern Europe region in Hungary.

During a visit by Gyurcsany's wife Klara Dobrev to a local children hospital, the Hungarian consulate at Shanghai donated cardiovascular medical appliances worthy of about 100,000 U.S. dollars to the hospital.

Gyurcsany will leave Shanghai and conclude his China visit on Wednesday night.
